Dear Ari.
It is a beautiful morning and every thing is lovely as the goos hangs high. I am well and hearty as a pig. I got my box last wednesday and this is the first chance that I have had to wright. every thing was all safe except a few apples whitch the Provo gard tried to see if thay were good. every box is opened at Fortress Monroe to see if there is any liquors in them and if there is over one quart thay take it out of the box and do what thay pleas with it I suppose. my boots fitt well reather large though / my vest and gloves could not have fitted any better if thay had growed on me. the gloves are just the thing and I want you to send me another pair just like them if you can get them send them by mail. I suppose you paid about 2.00 dollars for them. if you send another pair tell me what thay cost for I want them for another man. my vest is a bully one for the army it fitts around my neck first rate just what I wanted but the cake fitted the best in side of my neck. it went good I tell you and the butter the boys all thought it was very nice and so it was. the tobacco come just in time for I was just out. / the pickles I havnt opened yet but I presume thay are nice. my under shirts are just the thing and so are the stockings. tell Dolly that I am much obliged for the comb it is a nice one. tell Elmer he nice boy to send papa a pencil to write with and mama must not forget to send the walnuts next time and the salve is a first rate thing to have in the army. but of all the eatables the fish and Halebut went the best. I dont see why the folks dont send more fish when thay send a box to their friends in army. (the Cayenne pepper I could have sent you some if you would like it) but the black pepper goes nice. I have a pint of cayenne pepper now / the boys will eat it I guess. Oh about the strips. thay were first rate only two wide for a corporal so I sold them to our ordly sergt how much did thay cost hay. send me a pair one inch wide just like them. the shivons that is the strips for the arm are good ons just right. and so is every thing just right that was in the box. how much did the vest cost and the rest of the clothing. tell all of the doners that I am greatly obliged to them. I thought the boys would pissed them selves when I told them about that nice cake you daresnt send for fear it would hurt me.
