Dear Mother,

                        I will write you a few lines to let you know that I still live. Mr. Clough said that you heard that I was killed in Battle but I am happy to inform you that it is not so, I am well, and hearty as a buck. We have had our Election to day for President. the whole number of votes cast in our Company was (12) M^cClellan had 2 and Lincoln had (10) the Reg^t went (46) for M^cClellan and (80) for Lincoln, so you will see that the boys in the 13^th go in for old Abe. I was not very much interested in the Election. I hope the best man will get it, the one that will bring this country together again as it should be. I dont want the South to be wronged out of a / cent, but then, I think thay had better come back to the Union, or thay may get wronged out of their Little Confederacy. (enough of this.) I suppose Ari is down there now. right under foot, aint she. when you get tired of her, you must send her home. what is Atwell doing now days. is Father diging rocks this fall. he had ought to live out here, then he would not have any rocks to dig. I have nothing new to write, every-thing is quiet here, although we have to keep on the watch. last night we were under arms all night, expecting an attact, but the Johnnys did not trubble us, I dont think thay will attempt an attact at this point, for we are strongly fortified. I will close. Give my regards to Father, Atwell Uncle Daniel and all the rest of the folks. Good day.
