Ther. 32^a Sat. Jan. 1, 1887 Wea.

Mild dull & rainy

There has been quite a change in the weather since day before yesterday, then the glass was at zero. Mary Patterson was in Sarah called Alvin, Charley & Frank Williams were in the trees are all covered with ice.

Ther. 20^a Sunday 2 Wea.

It snowed this morning when I went to church. cleared off at about noon. Elder Hall preached this A.M. Mr Amazeen this P.M. Will & Ada went up to Edith's a little while. Atwell has been in twice

(9 oclock) it is growing colder. 4 above zero.

Very cold this morning. Ada washed, hung the clothes up stairs. Kit was in a little while this afternoon. Ada has gone down to see her this evening. Will has gone to singing school True & Charlotte have been in this eve. Atwell and Sarah called.

Ther. 2^b Tues. Jan. 4, 1887 Wea. snowy

Snowed a little most all day. Kit has been in with her work a while this afternoon Mammie ran in a few minuets. Stephen and I just got home from the Lodge. went with Leavitt Installation of Officers. 24 there.

Nell came up and stopped a while this forenoon. Mamie came up of an errand. Will & Ada were going to Rye but Will came home sick so they will not go. Stephen has gone to the Lodge. it snows a little. we are going to have a storm.

Ther. 30^a Thursday 6 Snowy Wea.

Snowing fast. Will did not feel able to go to the shop Stephen has gone. it snowed most all day. Nell and Kit were in and Mr Amazeen and his wife called this evening. Geo Cotton hawled part of our wood

Will dont get any better think we shall have the Dr tomorrow. Kit and Atwell were in this forenoon. John & Mae were down this afternoon brought a present for Ada & me from Mother. Ann Marden called this eve.

Ther. 4^b Saturday 8 Pleasant Wea.

This has been a very cold day. Will had the Dr he says he has an abscess. Atwell and Sarah Justin and Nell have been in today. They have finished hawling our wood. Alvin has just been down.

It was not very pleasant this morning. it begun to snow this afternoon and is still snowing. Atwell and Sarah, Alvin and Jennie, Charley and Justin and Frank Williams have been in. I have been to church all day. George Marden called in.

Dr was here this forenoon and lanced Will's abscess he brought cough drops for Ari. Sarah was in and got them. Kit was up and brought her work this afternoon. Nell & Atwell & Nat & Charley have been in this evening. Arthur brought Will some milk

Atwell has shoveled us a nice path. Charotte and Abbie called in. they both with myself spent the day with Aunt Maggie. Stephen came for me and stayed to tea. Nell called in. Frank and Fred Davis were in.

True came down and stayed a while with Will. he is up and dressed today. Kit was in awhile this forenoon. Stephen and I were going to the pound party but Abby Leavitt & Horace Mary & Stella came down and spent the evening.

Wea.

Kit was in this morning also Sarah and Ari. I went to Portsmouth on the noon train. Carrie Brown took me to the depot. Ada says Lizzie and Zip called this afternoon. Kit has been in this evening.

This has been a very stormy day snowed and blowed most all day. Atwell and Charley were in this morning they thought Stephen had better not go to the shop so he has not been today.

Another stormy day. Stephen & Will went to the shop. Will went to Ports. so they did not get home very early tonight. Mamie Patterson & Hattie were in this forenoon. Atwell & Fred Davis tonight Frank just came in for the mail

A lovely day. I did not go to church it was so bad traveling I was afraid to ride in the sleigh. Atwell & Charles & Hattie have been in. Tom and Belle called awhile just before dark. Otis Brown was up and spent the eve. Will went to meeting

Another stormy day. I guess we shall have snow enough after a time Nell came up this forenoon for a pattern. Atwell shoveled a path. Kit was up a little while. David came for mail. Fred and Frank came in this evening.

The wind blows and the snow flies. it is very pleasant overhead. Kit Sarah & Charley have been in and Arthur Brown came down to borrow a paper. Will has gone to Aid Society at the ministers

This is the coldest morning we have had but it is very pleasant now. 10 oclock—Kit has been in this afternoon. Sarah called in tonight. Atwell has been in and Frank came for the mail Surprise party up to Jennie Marstons.

Charlotte and Abbie have been down and spent the day. Ada spent the afternoon with Kit Will went over to tea. Nell came in for the mail. Sarah called. Mr Fogg came. it is thawing fast; looks like rain

It seems like a Jan thaw. I have got such a sore finger I cant work. had to get up in the night and poultice it. Addie Cotton called this afternoon Charley & Nell this eve. Mrs Esther Jones in Rye is dead

Arthur came down and brought me some milk. Hattie came for kerosene. Mamie Patterson came in and brought her work and staid awhile. George Marden called Eliza Ann was in. I paid her the ministers house rent

This is a beautiful day for Mrs Jones' funeral. Stephen says it is such bad traveling I had better not go to church. Atwell Sarah & Charley have been in. Will went to meeting this eve. very bad traveling. Sarah started but went back

This is a Jan thaw in earnest. the snow is most gone in places. Emma Jenness in Rye died this morning. Kit was in awhile this afternoon. Charley this evening. no singing school. growing colder.

Ada got most of her ironing done today. True called this morning and brought me two quarts of milk. Alvin and Jennie came down and spent the evening Charley was in. Nell was in this PM Ada is over to Kits this evening. Will has gone to the town house.

George Cotton was in last evening. Charley killed the pig this morning. Atwell helped.Kit came in a little while. the pig weighed 212 lbs. Irving was down awhile this evening no mum supper. too stormy

We have sudden changes. Emma Currier (Jenness) was buerried today. Abbott Zip & Lauris came from the funeral and spent the eve. Charley came down & brought the pig into the cellar.

Our darling baby has been dead three months tonight how long the time seems. Kit was in this forenoon. Mamie came for the mail. Charley has been down and cut up the pig this evening.

Ada and I have been very busy cooking, trying out lard & cleaning the greesy tubs and pans that the pork was in. Arthur came down this morning, brought me some milk. Otis has been up this evening

Have been to church. it has been a dull foggy day. Will has gone to meeting this evening Atwell has been in twice. the snow is most all gone. we went to church in the wagon.

Ada has washed. had a large wash. got done in good season. Kit has been in this afternoon. Nell Atwell & Charley this evening. Stephen and I have been to Hampton to carry the hams. Will has gone to singing school. Ada over to Kit's

This morning it tried to snow but it soon cleared off. now it is beautiful. Arthur brought me down some milk Mr Amazeen Charlotte & Abbie called this afternoon. (10 oclock) Stephen & I have just got home from the Lodge

Nell has been in twice Frank and Mamie called in. it has been a stormy day but Charlotte thought best to have the Mum Supper at Addie Cottons so Alvin came after me & brought me back

It has snowed, hailed, and rained today. a very dull disagreeable day. Kit was in awhile this afternoon. Will has gone to Rye tonight to an entertainment Ervin Dalton took over a sled load.

I have finished my calico dress and done my mending today. Atwell came over and shoveled the snow away for us. Mamie Lamprey called. Everett Brown and Atwell have been in this evening. it is growing colder

I wanted to go to Exeter today but Stephen thought it was too cold. it is good sleighing now. Kit Mamie Linwood and Harley were in this afternoon George Marden this evening.

Will and I have been to meeting all day. After meeting Will and Ada rode up to see Ida a little while. when they got home Stephen and I went up to Geo Cotton's awhile. Freddy has cut his knee not very bad

Ada has washed, put the clothes out doors, got them all dry but the flannels. she hung them on the clothes drier and they are about dry now. Mamie has been in twice. Everett spent the eve. Will is at singing school Ada at Kits

True & Charlotte called this morning brought some milk. Kit the two children & Mamie were over this afternoon. Justin & Frank to tea. Stephen and I have just got home from the Lodge. we had to go it was a special meeting to initiate new ones

The Christian Society will have a beautiful evening for their entertainment. Addie Cotton has invited me to go with her and George. Mr Amazeen called this afternoon. staid about two hours. Stephen gone to the Lodge

I went with George & Addie to Rye last eve. had a very nice time. got home 20 minuets past 12 oclock. got up about half past nine this morning. feel pretty old Nell and the children were in awhile Irving Dalton came in to see Stephen tonight

Sarah was in this forenoon. Addie Cotton this afternoon quite awhile. Frank came for the mail. True came for his mail and brought me some milk. George Marden has been in just gone. it is very slipery tonight. growing cold

Sarah came in this morning and invited me over to her house this evening to a sing. Will and I went. Nell called for us. I walked over. Mr Boynton brought me home. Atwell & George Marden spent the evening with Stephen and Ada.

Will and I have been to meeting Stephen said there was too much ice for him to go. Will and Ada went down to Nell's & Kit's a little while after supper. now Will has gone to meeting. Atwell is all the one that has been in today.

Ada washed put the clothes out doors, got them nice and dry. it has been a beautiful day. Kit was over this forenoon. Nell and the children this afternoon. Freddie brought the milk and Fred called for the pail. Ada has gone to Kit's. Will to singing school.

It was rainy this forenoon and I thought it doubtful if we went to Portsmouth but this afternoon it is clearing off and we shall go at ½ past 5 oclock. Kit has been in. Sarah called. True and Charlotte brought some milk. Mr Amazeen called.

We went to Portsmouth last evening to visit Union Rebekah degree Lodge. had a very fine time. got home ½ past one oclock. Ada said Alvin & Jennie were down and spent the eve. Sarah has been in today. Kit Mr Amazeen Everett & Frank called.

It is pleasant and warm. I am glad it is. hope there will be a good many to the concert tonight. Atwell and Fred Davis have been in. Otis called to get some change. he is going to sell the tickets at the concert tonight.

We all went to the concert given by the singing school last evening. it was very good the meeting house was full. supper good. they cleared between 40 and 50 dollars. Hattie Justin Frank & Everett have been in.

Arthur brought the milk down this morning. Kit and Nell have been in Otis called. Sarah called for me to go to Nell's to sing awhile. Everett spent the eve with Stephen. just got home from Nell's. Stephen & Will most sick.

I went to meeting all alone today Stephen did not feel like going Will was sick and couldn't go. Abbott Zip & Lauris have been up this afternoon. Nat called just night he says Ida's baby is most sick with a cold. Ella was in on an errand

Ada has washed and put the clothes out doors it snows a little. I hope they will dry. Kit came in this forenoon. Atwell has just been in says Mrs John Brown is dead. died quite sudden. Nat & Maggie up tonight

Mr Boynton called to say they want us to sing at Mrs Brown's funeral Thursday. meet at Nell's tonight to learn new pieces. Irving was down this eve. Mamie was in Mr Boynton called for me Stephen is so hoarse he can hardly speak aloud

Will & I went to Aid Society last eve Stephen is not so hoarse he feels better. he has had a number of callers today. Atwell, Natt, Nell, Kit, George Marden. George Dana, Mr Boynton, Jennie, Ella Hoyt & Irving Brown. Ada has been over to Kits this afternoon.

David called in this morning. Atwell & Horace this forenoon. Ann Marden at noon. Ada Cotton this afternoon they came to see Stephen. he is better today but has not been out doors yet. it is real stormy tonight.

Will and I have been to church today. there were but few out such bad traveling John Brown was there George Cotton, Leavitt, Atwell, Charley and Frank have been in. Leavitt had Maud with him. it is cold & windy tonight.

Stephen went to the shop today. he feels pretty tired tonight. Will dont feel very well he has a boil that troubles him. Alvin called today. Hattie & Ella have been in Frank came in this evening for the mail. it is real cold.

Irving sawed our wood today. Kit came over this afternoon. Alvin has been down this evening. Nat and Atwell have been in. Mrs Horatio Hobbs is just alive.

I went to the Lodge last eve. Stephen did not go he did not feel able. I wanted to go to Portsmouth today but it is dull Kit has been in this forenoon. it is lucky I did not go to Portsmouth today. Carrie & Willie Mathes came to spend the day.

Today Stephen & I have been to Portsmouth. Stephen got him a suit of clothes. tonight Will and I have been to Aid Society. reorganized. chose all the old officers. Nat, Horace Frank, Sarah & Kit have been in. Kit & Mamie rode home with me.

I wanted to go to Exeter today but Stephen thought it was too cold for us to ride so far and he dont feel very well. Sarah has been in Hattie called. George Marden came for work Frank came in Ada went down to Kit's a few minuets.

It was real cold this morning. now it is beautiful I hope it will be pleasant tomorrow. the first Sunday in the month. Mamie Tuttle is quite sick with Pneumonia. had the Dr. Kit Atwell & Hattie have been in Arthur brought milk

It has snowed all day. we did not any of us go to church. Atwell has been in says Mamie is no better. Will went down to Nell's & Justin's. he says Harley seems quite sick. Frank came up for lemons & flaxseed. eve still snowing

This has not been a very pleasant day. Ada has washed and put the clothes out doors. now she has gone to see how Harley is. he is better the Dr thinks the worst is over. Kit run in just now to tell us. Atwell & Geo Marden called

Town meeting day. Stephen &Will have gone to work. will go from the shop to the town meeting. Mamie Tuttle is a little better. Kit is in this afternoon with her work. Atwell & Frank have been in this evening

Charlotte and Abbie came down this morning. Abbie staid and spent the day. Will has just gone over to Sarah's with her she is going to stay all night and spend the day tomorrow. Mr Leavitt called with Bibles to sell.

This has been a stormy day. it rained all the forenoon. at noon it begun to snow and snowed all the afternoon and is still snowing this eve. Stephen has gone to Hampton with Leavitt. Irving Geo Marden & Atwell called

Stephen got home from the entertainment at Hampton at 12 oclock. he said it was good & that I could go tonight with Leavitt. I guess I will if it is pleasant. Abbie is spending the day with us. Atwell, Leavitt & Alvin called

Will & I went to Hampton with Leavitt last night. had a very good time. got home at ½ past 12 oclock. Horace told me this morning that Richard Lock's son is dead. Alvin brought milk. Will has gone to society meeting

Will and I have been to church. the sleighing is going fast. I hope we shall not have any more snow this spring Charley and Atwell have been in

Ada washed. I hung out the clothes and washed the floor. Berlie Mitchel called to get Stephen's crutches. he has hurt his ancle. Kit has been in with her work awhile this afternoon. Will has gone to the club

Ada & I have ironed this A.M. Alvin brought down the milk this forenoon. Nell was in a short time. Irving called Mamie came for the mail Leavitt brought Stephen home from school meeting early.

Stephen & I went to the Lodge last night with Leavitt. Ada & I have changed the beds round today. it was quite a job for us. Kit brought her work up and staid awhile this afternoon.

Today is St Patrick's day. quite a good day. Ada and I have done our mending this forenoon. Stephen came from the shop at noon. we are invited to spend the afternoon & evening at Addie Cotton's Nell and the children are up here.

Stephen & I went to Addie's got home about ½ past 10 oclock. had a very nice time. there were twelve there beside her own family. Sarah has been in. it is quite rainy this afternoon. Alvin brought the milk down Frank is here.

Ada had most all the work to do today. my finger is so sore I cant do much. Nell has been in all the forenoon. I finished cutting up my cut of cloth this afternoon. Atwell is in this evening.

Stephen came home this forenoon to get ready to go to the funeral this afternoon he and I went. it was very cold and windy but few there. Sarah & Hattie went with us. Alvin is down this evening.

Kit has been with her work a while this afternoon. I have been to Aid Society this evening at Mrs Amazeen's. had a very pleasant time. Will was going but he is sick. Sarah and Kit rode home with me.

Arthur came down this morning to get some money for the minister. I gave him $25.00 Will has been home sick today. Ada has finished her dress this afternoon. the one like Kits. Atwell has been in.

Arthur came down this morning and brought the milk. this has been a cold windy disagreeable day. a real March day. George Marden called this eve Frank has been in. he and Will have been studying the map of the world.

Stephen went to Boston this morning. it seemed rainy when he started but before noon it cleared off nicely. his Reg has a reunion at the Revere House tomorrow. Ada washed got the clothes dry. Kit called Nell & Byron were up.

It was real rainy this morning but cleared off nice at noon. I guess Stephen will have a nice time at the reunion today. Kit has been in. Addie Cotton was down this afternoon. Will got a letter from By. he met Stephen at the depot

The Aid society had cake & coffee at the vestry. Will and I went. Ada did not feel very well when we went but Nat & Maggie were here so we thought we would go. got home little past 9 oclock baby was born at half past 11 oclock

Sarah commenced to clean for me today. she done Ada's chamber and the stairway. Edith & Susie have been down. Kit has been in Charlotte & Jennie came down. they brought Ada some cream. Edith brought her some candy. Ada is better she sat up one hour.

Sarah cleaned the parlor today. did not get the carpet put down. Ada sat up 1½ hours today the Dr is not coming again. Charlotte was down this afternoon. Arthur brought down the milk. Kit has been in this evening.

Ada is up and dressed today for the first time. she says she feels nicely. Kit was in this morning. Alvin Arthur & Jennie, Abbot Zip & Lauris this afternoon. Ada has just gone to bed. Will has gone to meeting.

Will and I went to Aid Soc last evening. Saw the school teacher. she is very pleasant Sarah has finished cleaning today. I am very glad. Ada has named the baby Leon Stephen. Fannie sent down word that she thought Leon was a pretty name so Ada thought she would call him that

Jennie Annie & Arthur were down last evening. Will & Alvin went to Hampton. Ada has moved her bed up stairs today. Geo Marden & Stephen have gone to the Lodge. David has ploughed our garden tonight

I moved my bed up stairs today and have got the bed room all ready for Mother when she comes. Stephen got a dispatch from Cad tonight saying Jim was sick. She wants me to go over tomorrow. we had a number of callers.

I came over here this noon found him quite sick but the Dr says he is out of danger. he has the spinal trouble. he and Caddy were very glad I could come over. Jim has good friends here.

Jim did not get much rest last night Caddy had to wake him up to take his medicine. the Dr says he is no worse. I came home tonight. am going back next week. Ada got along well.

Stephen, Ada, Baby, and myself have been to Exeter today. we picked out a grave stone for Elmer and one for Albert. Mother came home with us. Mr Blair came to Mae's to see us. Will has gone to the club.

Tuesday 17

Sarah has washed had a large wash 115 pieces. I hung them all out. Mother helped a good deal about the work and baby has been real good, dear little boy. Grammy hates to go away but Jim is sick so I must go.

Stephen and I went to Lodge last night with Leavitt. I came over here to Cad's this morning. Jim is not so well today, is out of his head. Jim is more quiet tonight there is a man come to set up with him he seems real nice.

Jim had a good night last night, is more comfortable today. Mr Stuart was down before breakfast. Mr Morrill is a nice watcher & Cad thinks she shall like him well. there has been a number of callers in today but they dont see Jim.

Jim is better today only pretty nervous. the Dr thinks he will get along nicely now. Mrs Batchelder came down this forenoon I was real glad to see her. she is very nice. Jim seems real bright tonight

The Dr came early this morning he says Jim is doing nicely. Cad & Sophy have gone to Amesbury Jim & I are keeping house. Cad felt obliged to go I told her she had better go before I go home. I am going this afternoon.

This has been a very warm day. the wind has blowed hard. our glass was 90 above at one oclock. Kit has been in this afternoon. Will has a bad cold but he has gone to the club tonight.

Another warm windy day. the wind sounds like rain. I hope it will rain. it is very dry Sarah has washed Ada hung out all the clothes. baby dont feel very well today but I guess nothing serious.

I though last night I should go to Portsmouth this morning but it rained so I waited til noon. it did not rain while I was gone but tonight it is real wet. I got part of the dishes & some flowers but no hat.

This has been a dull rainy day. Uncle David was buerried from the church. today is Memorial Sunday but it was so dull Stephen did not go to Hampton. I hope it will be pleasant tomorrow.

Monday 30

This has been a lovely day for memorial. Stephen & I went to Hampton this morning went to the Hall first. the flowers were beautiful. went to Abbott's to dinner. got home before dark.

Sarah has washed for us today about the middle of the forenoon Jennie came down and said she and Alvin were going to Portsmouth I could go with them. I did & got me a hat & pair of boots and got the mugs for the vestry. spent all the money but 2 cents

We have done the ironing today it is very rainy. Stephen heard this morning that Ida has a girl baby. I guess they will be well pleased all round. we commenced today to give baby milk from Alvin's.

Thursday 2

Baby has seemed better today I guess the milk will be good for him as the cow does not have any malt. we are having a real dull time. it has rained considerable.

I am glad I did not go away today. baby has not seemed very well he is troubled a great deal with wind. I hope he will be better as he grows older. Mrs Amazeen & Eliza called this afternoon Sarah Hattie Jennie & Arthur called.

Sunday 5

Stephen Will & I have been to meeting today. Baby dont feel very well. I dont think it is anything serious. John Mallon & Mr Walker have been down. they did not stop long. this is dear little Albert's birthday he would have been two years old if he had lived

We have finished the ironing it was very warm this forenoon I am going down to Hampton this afternoon with Addie. the men will go this eve. the Lodge are to have a supper. baby is nicely today.

We got home from the Lodge about ½ past 12 oclock last night. there were 9 initiated Aunt Maggie & Carrie Brown called this afternoon to see baby. I am going to have the Aid Society tomorrow night.

I got a letter from Cad last night she dont write very encouraging about Jim I guess I will go over tomorrow and see them. I am going down to Hampton tonight with Stephen. he is going to Post Meeting

Mrs Dearborn gave me some flowers last night and today I have been over to Cad's and I bought enough more to make nice bouquets for the childrens graves. I dont think Jim has gained much.

Will & I have been to church Stephen did not feel able to go his leg troubled him all night since supper Will Ada Baby and I have called to see Ida and up to Bells'. Ida's baby is real small and real good.

I dont know what we shall do if this warm weather continues I have been to Portsmouth this afternoon to get flowers for Elmer's and Albert's graves. it was very hot there. Nell George and Justin came up this evening.

It is very warm I think we shall have showers before night. John Mae Grace & Mr Blair have been down just gone. Ada & Will have gone to evening meeting. we had a little rain but not enough to do any good.

Elmer would be 26 years old today if he was alive. the time has seemed long since he died. Will & Ada went up yesterday morning and put the flowers on his & Albert's graves. Mother Stephen Baby & I went to ride this afternoon

Will & Ada went to ride last eve with Alvin & Jennie got home a little past 10 oclock. Ada is washing this forenoon. Sarah and her mother & Ari spent the afternoon with us. tonight we are going to the Lodge.

Mother and I spent the day up to Charlotte's. Arthur came and got us. Alvin brought us home. we had a nice time. Abby was in this afternoon. Stephen has gone to the Lodge tonight. I dont expect him home till late.

Thursday 7

We have ironed today. it has been very hot. Stephen got a postal from Frank Carroll tonight saying they were burnt out Monday evening the fourth. we are all anxious to hear the particulars.

Friday 8

I got a postal tonight from Mrs Dearborn asking me to go to Hampton. they were going to meet and see about instituting a releaf corps. also to choose Officers I guess I will go down with Stephen.

We got home from Hampton last night at 11 oclock. they will institute the Corps next Friday evening. Mrs Amazeen brought Ada's dresses home this afternoon. I guess she will like them. Will & Ada have gone to Hampton this evening.

Sunday 10

It was quite dull this morning Will and I went to meeting. after supper Will and Ada went to the grave yard and carried two bouquets for the graves. Mrs Amazeen gave me the flowers. When they came back Stephen Will Ada Baby & I went to ride

Monday 11

This has been a very showery day. Ada washed but did not put her clothes out doors. she hung the colored ones in the shop & put the white ones to soak. I thought I should get a letter from Nessie tonight but I did not.

Ada put the clothes out and got them dry and we done the ironing all of it. we got Mr Blair's picture tonight. it is a good one. Kit was up this forenoon she said she would give us some peas. Will went down tonight and picked them.

Wednesday 13

This has been a fine hay day. Will cut a part of ours. Ada turned it twice. Will has cut more tonight. I dont know how he is going to get it tended. Stephen has gone to Lodge tonight. I bought a table cloth & skirt of a pedler today

Thursday 14

Charlotte came down after dinner and we made and froze the ice cream for this afternoon and evening. 2 freezers full. had the aid society this afternoon & evening I went this afternoon Will & Ada have gone this evening.

Ada said there was a good number to Aid Society last eve. and all the ice cream was sold. tonight the soldiers wifes are to have a releaf corps instituted and the Post is invited. Stephen and I are going down.

We did not get home from Hampton last night till 20 minuets past 1 oclock and I have felt most sick today I had to lie down my head ached so bad. we had a real nice time at Hampton last night

Ada and I have been to church today. Mother Stephen and Will took care of baby. he was real good. since supper Mother Will Ada Baby & I have been to ride to Hampton Beach. it rained some before we got home.

Ada put her clothes out this morning. a part of the colored ones she put in the shop were dry and we ironed them this forenooon. at noon Ada Baby and I went to Portsmouth to have Baby's picture taken.

We ironed today. we thought we should get the proof of Baby's picture tonight but we did not. I guess it will come tomorrow we are anxious to see if it is good Stephen has gone to Lodge. I went last night with Geo and Addie

We are having very changable weather this week. real dog days weather. sunshine and rain we got the proofs of the babie's picture tonight but dont feel satisfied with them. guess we shall go again to have more.

Lizzie and Charlotte have been down spending the day. True came to supper and spent the eve. they did not go to prayer meeting. it looked like rain. Oliver Albert Brown's wife called. Sarah was in.

This morning it looked dull but towards noon it seemed more like being pleasant so Ada Baby & I went to Portsmouth to get to get Baby's picture taken. we got a good one but such a rainy afternoon as it was. it rained

Will and I have been to meeting had an extra meeting this afternoon at ¼ past 2 oclock. Mr Pike preached it has been showery all day. Will and Ada wanted to go up to Charlotte's tonight but it rains so hard they cant go.

Ada washed. got the clothes all dry. she had a large wash. this afternoon she went up to Charlotte's a little while. this evening Stephen and I have called up to Aunt Sallie's & Aunt Lydia's and up to Mrs Garland's in Rye.

It has been very warm and disagreeable. we have ironed. did not finish till this afternoon. Ada got a few raspberries and made some jelly. Edith & Mae Perkins called tonight. Stephen & I called at Horace's Mrs Reuben's & Mrs Garland's at the sea

Alvin brought 3 qts of blueberries that Annie Sleeper picked for us this morning. this afternoon Jennie Arthur & Ada have been blueberrying Ada got 3 qts. they are not very plenty Stephen has gone to the Lodge.

We have been cooking some this afternoon Mother and I went to the Aid Society at the vestry. I went up for Stephen and Will when it was time and Mother came home with them I staid this eve Will went back.

today dont seem a bit like saturday. we did not have to cook. Will and Ada have gone to the Wentworth this eve with Alvin and Jennie. Nat and Maggie have been up this evening

Will and I have been to church when we got home we found John Mallon Frank Carroll & Mr Stokell here. they stayed to supper. Will Ada and Leon have been to Hampton. Albert Locke and his wife and Miss Hobbs called.

Monday, Aug. 1

Ada washed had a very large wash. got the clothes dry and taken in and then Mother Ada Leon and myself went up to Aunt Sally Marstons and spent the afternoon had a nice time. Will and Ada have gone to ride this evening.

We have done part of the ironing. Mother and I were going to Lizzies to spend the day but it commenced to rain so we could not go. it cleared off at noon so we just called to bid her good bye. I am going to the lodge.

Wednesday 3

Finished ironing today. Edith Susie and May Perkins have been up and spent the day. They and Ada and baby went to the beach this afternoon. tonight I am going to the Relief Corps and shall carry them home.

Thursday 4

I have been over to Cad's today with Mother. she will stay there awhile then go over with Nessie. we shall miss her very much. Baby will miss her. she thinks a great deal of him and he does of her. Will dont feel very well.

We have done a little of most every thing today and it has kept us pretty busy. tonight I got a letter from Cad Sherman saying she was coming to make me a visit I shall be glad to see her.

Ada's birth day

This has been a busy day for us. it has been a very showery afternoon. May Perkins came up tonight on the train. she rode down with the men. Will Ada and she have gone to ride this eve. it is a beautiful evening to ride.

Will May and I have been to meeting after supper. Will Ada and May have gone to ride and May will not come back. she is going home tomorrow morning. Hattie Brown has just been in I have written two letters.

Ada got up early and washed. she got done in real good season. Carrie Sherman got here at noon Stephen brought her down and staid to dinner. this evening she Stephen and I have been over to Abram Drakes to see her daughter that is boarding there.

We have done part of the ironing this afternoon. Mrs Parker (Carrie's daughter) and her little boy have been over awhile to see us. her health is very poor and she seemed quite blue. her sister Carrie is coming Thursday.

Last evening Will & Ada Fred & Carrie went to ride we finished the ironing Stephen went to the Lodge this evening. Carrie and I sat up talking till he came home. now it is half past 11 oclock and we are going to bed.

Jim keeps his medicine down better today and has been dressed all day. he lies on the longe all the time. he dont seem to have much strength. I call him a sick man

Frank Ness and the two little children have been over and spent the day. they did not know Jim was sick. the Dr came today he says Cad must get Jim home just as soon as she can. he thinks his is a hard case.

Jim seems a little better today the Dr thinks he need not come any more. Ada and Cad have washed I told Cad she had better wash and iron before she tried to go home. the baby has worried a good deal.

We have managed to get the ironing all done today, but we had to do part of it this afternoon. Jim has had a bad nearvous day but he seems better tonight they will go home tomorrow if it is pleasant

Stephen Will and I have been to meeting. it has not been very pleasant. rained a little this afternoon. after supper Will and Ada went up to Alvin's. Will has gone to meeting this evening.

Mon. Nov. 21, 1887

We have washed and ironed. made 7 mince pies and this evening I have dressed two ducks and one chicken I think we have done a good day's work. at any rate we are very tired. Will has gone to the Literary association

Tuesday 22

Made more pies today. have 29 tonight. dressed three chickens this evening. Stephen reckoned up the number of pounds they all weighed. 24¼ ducks & chickens. I should think that was enough for one day

Wednesday 23

Finished making pies today. have made 40 in all and a large chicken pie. also two loves of cake. we are about ready now for Thanksgiving. Stephen has gone to the Lodge. it is dull, has been raining

Thanksgiving day. Stephen and I went up to the grave yard. he fixed Elmer's grave a little. I carried wreaths for both graves. we have been alone all day. Will and Ada went to the depot & Ida's tonight

Friday 25

I wanted to go to Exeter today but it is rainy and bad traveling. was not fit to go. I am afraid it will snow before long. then I cant go. the weather is very mild for the last of November.

Saturday 26

Another dull day it dont rain much but it is very damp and foggy. Alvin and Jennie have been down this evening.Will would have gone up to Addie Marston's to a sing if they had not been here.

Will and I have been to meeting. we did not stop to Sabbath school for Will and Ada went to the funeral and it was at one oclock. Ada said there were a great many there. Grace had a great many friends.

Monday 28

Burgalers broke into Sam Dow's and Mr Rollin's stores some time last night. they did not get any thing in Sam's but they blowed open Rollin's safe and set fire to the store and burned it down.

Tuesday 29

Ada washed yesterday and I hung the clothes out but it begun to rain and towards night she took them in & put them in a tub. today she put them out. got them all dry and part ironed. they have all but

We finished ironing today. the windows have come but no knowing when we shall get any one to put them in. I wish we could get the hen house done now it is getting so cold. Stephen has gone to the Lodge

Thursday, Dec. 1

It was very cold this morning only 5 above zero. Belle Dearborn and her sister Annie Taylor called this forenoon to see if I was going to corps meeting tonight Charlotte & Emma called.

Friday 2

We got home from Hampton last night at half past 11 oclock. Stephen's leg troubled him so bad he did not go to bed at all. he went to work says it is better tonight. it looks very much like snow.

Sat. Dec. 3, 1887

Ada has not been very well today so I have done the work and am very tired. True has been putting in the windows today they look nice he has got the hen house all done. Stephen & I are going to Hampton. it is corps inspection.

Sunday 4

We did not get home till 20 minuets past 12 oclock last night. Will and I have been to church. I have a bad cold cant speak aloud. George Addie & Fred Cotton spent the evening with us.

Monday 5

Ada washed but it was so rainy we put the clothes up stairs. True has been down and finished the windows. Will has gone to the vestry this evening. it is real pleasant out now.

Tues. Dec. 6, 1887

The clothes are part of them dry enough to iron but as we had some cooking to do we thought we would not try to do any ironing. Stephen & I are going to the Lodge this evening with Leavitt Dalton.

Wednesday 7

We got home last night at ½ past 11 oclock. Jennie & Emma have been down and spent the day. Alvin and Arthur came to tea and all staid till half past 8 oclock this evening.

Thursday 8

We have ironed today I dont like to be so late in the week with my ironing but we couldn't seem to help it this week Addie Cotton called for me to go to Aid Society at Eliza Ann's we had a good time

Stephen and I have been to Exeter today. went to Aunt Jane's and staid to dinner, then went to Mae's and got the table that Cad gave me. we got home at half past six oclock. it looks dull.

Saturday 10

We have cooked and mended and got all ready for Saturday night. it is raining this evening. Will and Ada have gone over to Justins. Charley called this morning he says his Mother is failing fast.

Sunday 11

It is so rainy today we did not any of us go to meeting. Abbie died this afternoon about three oclock, just six weeks from the time she fell down stairs. I havn't been up it is so rainy & I have such a cold

Mon. Dec. 12, 1887

Ada washed this forenoon. this afternoon she and Will have gone to Portsmouth. Will carried me up to see Abbie before they went. she looks very natural. the funeral is to be tomorrow. I guess it will be fair.

Tuesday 13

Abbie was buerried this afternoon. Stephen Will and I went to the funeral. Ada had to stay at home to see to Leon Abbie looked very nice and natural. there were a good many there Kit has been over this evening.

Wednesday 14

It dont seem possible that Abbie is dead I cant seem to make it seem real but I think it is her gain to go. she never would have been right if she had lived. Stephen & Will have gone to the Lodge.

Thurs. Dec. 15, 1887

This has been a lovely day. Kit sent over this noon to see if Ada didn't want to go to ride with her so she and Leon went. we had a good deal to do but I thought she had better go when she had a chance.

Friday 16

Stephen is home today he dont feel very well. he was sick all night. I tell him he is out too much nights to the Lodges. he aint as smart as he used to be and cant be out so much nights.

Saturday 17

I have been to Portsmouth today. Such a lot of nice presents for any one to buy that has plenty of money. I did not get much only for Leon. I got a little for all. it has been a lovely day

This morning when we got up the ground was white with snow and it was still snowing. it was so stormy we have none of us been to meeting. this evening Will and Ada have gone over to see Kit. I am sorry to see snow.

Monday 19

It has been a nice day. Ada washed put the white clothes up stairs the colored ones out doors. they got all nice and dry. the ones up stairs are most dry tonight. Will has gone to the vestry Ada over to Kit's

Tuesday 20

Ada has gone to Portsmouth this forenoon is coming home at 11 oclock. I got Leon a hood when I went it did not fit him so she is going to change it. Ada got a pretty plush hood for Leon I am going to the Lodge tonight

Wed. Dec. 21, 1887

Leavitt and I went to the Lodge last night. Stephen did not feel like going they have had to work hard in the shop for two days showing. it is snowing hard today. tonight it is clearing off Stephen & Will have gone to the Lodge.

Thursday 22

Will took his second degree in the Lodge last night. it was pleasant this forenoon. at noon we had quite a snow squall. this evening it is real pleasant. the Aid Society meets at Jennie Marstons. we are not going it is such snowy traveling

Friday 23

It has been a pleasant day but cold. I guess it was well we did not go to Aid Society last night for Ed, Steve, Edith and Susie Perkins were up and spent the evening. Susie brought Leon a picture book for Christmas.

Today we have done our mending and cooked for Christmas. Ella had a christmas tree this afternoon. Leon had a present on it a very pretty card from Ella. Sarah and Ari have gone to Hampton Falls to spend Christmas.

Sunday 25

Another dull Sunday the last in the year. Christmas day. we all got presents some of them very nice and useful. Will & I have been to meeting. this evening Will Ada & Ella have gone to North Hill to a concert.

Monday 26

It has snowed a little all day but it has been too cold to have the snow accumalate any. Ada washed we put the clothes up stairs. tonight we got a box from Cad Sherman with a present for us all. we were much surprised

We got a few of the clothes dry and ironed them today. it snowed most all the forenoon. cleared off just before night. this evening it is splendid Charley Philbrick & his wife have been up and spent the evening

Wednesday 28

Most of the clothes got dry. we ironed part of them, couldn't get them all done we had to cook. I made pies Ada made a cake to carry to the vestry tomorrow night. it is very rainy tonight S & W did not go to Lodge

Thursday 29

We finished ironing today. it rained so much it spoiled the sleighing. it is pleasant and cold today. Stephen Will and Ada have gone to the Literary entertainment. I hope Ada wont get any more cold

Stephen and Ada got home last night about 11 oclock Will staid to help. he got home at 1 oclock. it was a very cold night. it has been real cold today and very windy Irving Brown has been in tonight

Saturday 31

This is the last night of the year. how little we any of us know what changes another year will bring. this past year has made great changes. some that were here a year ago tonight have gone never to return and some of us that are here tonight may have passed away before one year from tonight. none of us can tell who will go next. True & Charlotte have been down this evening

George More told us today that Arthur Breed tried to kill himself in Newburyport Depot yesterday by cutting the artery in his arm. I think he must be insane. dont know any of the particulars.

Jan 21^st Mrs Esther Jones in Rye died this morning, is to be buerried Sunday. Mr Amazeen will tend the funeral.

Jan 27^th Mrs Emma Currier (Jenness) in Rye died the 24^th was buerried today. Mr Amazeen tended the funeral from the Advent Church

Jan 28^th The soap man came today and took my ashes and paid me in hard soap. I had 13½ bars. I write it down so to see how long it will last me.

Jan 29^th Mr Carter and Mrs Fannie Saulter were married today. they have gone on a wedding tour to be gone a few weeks. Charley Smith's wife has a little boy. I did not hear when it was born (heard it was the 24^th)

Feb 17^th George Jenness in Rye died Tuesday the 15^th buerried today. Mr Amazeen will attend the funeral.

Mar 21^st Mr Boynton died today at noon. funeral Wednesday at 2 oclock. he is to be buerried Thursday in Hill.

Apr 2^nd We are having the hardest storm of the season. it is not so cold as in the winter but the wind is terrible.

Mr Thomas Moore was killed on the railroad tonight he was in Portsmouth. took the wrong train & went to Kittery and in getting off the train he stepped in front of another train and was killed. it is very sad. he was an old man.

July 30^th There was a colored boy killed on the track between Drake's bridge and Greenland by the first train this morning. he belonged in Portsmouth.

Aug 14^th Emma Drake died Friday was buerried today from the vestry at the Centre. Mr Amazeen tended the funeral. Mr Haines is away on his vacation.
