Father,
Here We arrived in the Harbor this morning at sunrise and are now at anchor awaiting further orders.
We shall, in all probability, proceed to Washington by water. I cannot tell exactly when we start but, from what I hear, we shall lay here all day. We are all well, in good spirits and had a very pleasant trip over the Sound. I have but little time to spare, and a brother of Lt. Brooks is here from York and will mail this for me. My Love to all.

Yours A. G. Bates
