Salem February 21st

Dear Brother
Your last letter was received in due time & should have been answered sooner. I have not been at all well for the past ten days I have had the worst cold I ever had in my life. We are haveing very unpleasant weather for the past week cold & stormy on Tuesday we had the worst snow storm we have had this winter. last night it snowed all night & to day it is melting as fast as it can. I enclose a statement of the farm for the first year. I have given you the entire amt expended except the lumber used in roofing the kitchen. I kept the entire amt of lumber used separate & / have put it in last years Act. also a small bill of blacksmithing that I got done repairing barn doors, gates &c. I had it put in my Act. I wanted to find out how much it was the last time I was in town but the blacksmith was busy. It dont amt to much. I also enclose an article of agreement in regard to the hedge. Hotlinger was out to see me a few days ago. I told him I would let him know as soon as I heard from you. Shall I enter into an agreement in my own name or yours, or shall I send you a blank for you to fill. I think it would be prudent to have inserted in the agreement that they should plait or braid the fence.

I suppose you have heard ere this that we have got a young Davy at our house. Lew & Mary talks of moveing one week from to day / Mary & the little boys are going to live over at Davy's till they are ready to go to Iowa I do not know when Lew is going I dont think he knows himself.

John Rhoades has been very sick with lung fever not expected to live tho he is some better now. But I must close Ellen is washing to day & I have to be nurse

Write soon

Love to all as ever
