George B. Miles to Brother and Sister, 17 June 1861
Camp Scott Monday June 17

Dear Brother & Sister
This is a day of considerable confusion in camp we received marching orders on Saturday we intend starting in the morning for Alton from there to Memphis so I guess we will soon see actual service I hope so at least for if we are to do any fighting I want to be doing it. Your last letter I received in due time and I would have answered it sooner but my time was / too much occupied

I was over to Carroll since I last you I found the folks all well my health has been very good since I wrote to you last. Now Dear Brother & Sister you must excuse me from writing any more as we are very busy getting ready to start when you write direct to Freeport same as before and I will have my letters forwarded to me

In haste your Affe
George
