Dear Brother & Sister
Your letter of the 4th was received this morning and as I have a little spare time to day (Haveing laid over to rest) I will try and answer. We left Otterville on Friday morning and arrived here last evening haveing traveled a distance of about 70 miles in 4 days I have got along better than I expected I would tho I get very tired when night comes. We are now takeing I think our final leave of Mo and I am glad of it. we commence crossing the river in the morning going from here to St Charles a distance of 120 miles cross the river there then Ho! for Ky at least that is the programme / laid out for us now
As to Price and his Army they are in a very bad condition he has made three attempts to leave Springfield but has failed he has now concluded to fight There is about 15,000 Union troops advanceing on him mostly Cavalry the advance guard are now beyond Lebanon I think his chances are very slim as his effective force does not exceed 8,000 men The papers you sent me arrived for which accept my thanks You will have to excuse me from writing more as I have some washing to do to-day which must be attended to I will write to you at every opportunity I have
Write soon Direct as before
As Ever Your Brother
George
