Hospital N^o 3 New Albany Ind^a

Sunday June 29^th 1862     

      

Dear Brother & Sister

                                    I will try and write you a few lines to let you know how I am getting along tho I am unable to sit up to write since I last wrote to you I have had another very bad spell of sickness. I would have written to you sooner but was not able. how I have suffered no one knows but myself how I wished for some of my dear friends to wait on me but I was among strangers and had to take such attention as chose to give I have given up the idea of getting well at least as long as I stay in the hospital still the Red-Tape Monarch must be obeyed. You ask me what kind / of treatment I get here hard enough I assure you You also ask me if I have written to my Capt & Col in regard to my getting a discharge I have not as there is no use of it as the proper authority is right here to grant discharges. If I only had some one of my friends here to attend to it for me I could soon get away from here but I can not do it myself if you was only here Edwin you could do it. They have moved me from No 1 to Hospital No 3 since I wrote to you last. I had letters from Owen & Martha last week but have not answered them yet I almost forgot to mention the receipt of your last letter and the $5 for which you have my thanks I did not need it now but may if I get to go away If you can arive and see me / I will go along with you home if I am able But Dear Brother I do not insist on your comeing as I know it is hard for you to get away But I am getting to weak to write more so must close let me hear from you soon
