Sunday Afternoon Aug 31st 1862

Dear Brother & Sister
Your letter came to hand by yesterday's mail also the one from Owen. As I have got a little time yet before going to the Office I will try and answer it. I have been writing nearly all day only what time I was sleeping when I finish your letter it will be the fourth one for to day This has been a very warm day. If I was to be sent back to my Regt during this warm weather I dont think I would stand it long. I am still gaining strength and I am in hopes by care that I will regain my health again. I have had two or three slight attacks of my desease. But I stop eating and go to takeing medicine and by those means I soon check the desease They have got a new Doctor since you was here to help Bowman he is quite an / old man and I think a perfect gentleman he came to me the other morning and enquired as to my health. I told him he thought I ought to be taken some medicine. he gave me some and told me how to take it. But did I? If the ground could speak it would say No. I tell you I am done takeing their strong medicine. To day there was a Mustering Officer here to muster us for our pay. we expect to get our pay the beginning of this week if we do I will express you some money as I do not want to have it about me. I do not think there is much danger of us being sent away from here for a while not till they get some more sick here. Bowman had to get some transfered from the other Hospitals to this one as the number here had got below what is required to keep up a Hospital. The past week has been one of general house cleaning we was busy all week. I assure you it was not done 'till it was needed. They expect the / Medical Inspector here this week. I have been detailed this week to keep the Dineing Room in order. what a nice thing it is to be in office. But it is time for me to go to the Office so must close. Remember me to Mr Lutton and all other enquireing Friends My love to the Children as Ever Your Brother
