George B. Miles to Brother and Sister, 5 September 1862
Park Barracks Ky
Friday Sept 5th 1862
Dear Brother & Sister
Since I last wrote to you there has been some changes made that I have dreaded for several days. Yesterday morning there was an order come from Major Grainger to our Doctors at New Albany to send every man across the river that could walk so we all had to put out I wanted them to send me to my Regt but they would not do it they said I was not able. They are going to form us into Regiments here to protect Ky and God only knows where or what will become of me. Oh! such a place as they have got us in it is awfull. I will try and keep you / posted as to my whereabouts I do not feel very well this morning and more than that I completely out of heart. If you receive this write to Carroll and let them know where I am The Barracks that I am in is about three miles from town But I must close as I do not feel much like writing GoodBye
As Ever your Brother
