In Camp at Bolivar Tenn
Sunday Oct 12th 1862
Dear Brother & Sister
As I promised to write you as soon as I could after getting to my Regt, I will now try and do so. I got into camp on Thursday feeling purty much under the weather had a very high fever. I was very much alarmed fearing I was going to be sick again but I took some of my drugstore and went to bed on the ground. got up in the morning feeling fine. went out on picket had a good time. Tho we seen no Secesh. While some of the boys were on guard the balance were out foraging. we succeeded in getting quite a supply of fresh meat which the boys stood very much in need. How some of the Rascals begged of us not to take the last they had but it was of no use they had to come or bleed. We told them they could feed Price & his army willingly and they was bound to feed us, because Uncle Sam has said so. I tell you I find guarding Rebel property is played out at least with the old 15th. I found most of the boys in good health tho very much worn down as they had just got back from the fight on Hatchee River. They cleaned them out most beautifully captureing a splendid batery which has been given in charge of the Regt. there was none killed in the Regt several wounded
I found the camp full of the floating population or in other words culled Pussons. I find the can make themselves generally usefull, such as cooking, carrying wood, water, and a hundred things that save the soldier. I must get one the first opportunity I have cant do without one that's whats the matter But I am tired of writing so I will close. Remember me to all Friends. My love to the Children Write soon
I remain as Ever Your Brother
