George B. Miles to Brother and Sister, 9 November 1862
In Camp at Lagrange Tenn
Monday Nov 9th 1862
Dear Brother & Sister
Your letter was received yesterday and as I have a few moments of leisure time I concluded I would answer it as we do not know what moment we will have to leave here since I last wrote to you we have been trying to find old Price but have not succeeded as yet. We waited at Bolivar thinking he would / attack us but as he would not do that our Genls concluded to make a forward movement, so as not to be behind that mighty Genl in the East. This morning the report is in camp that England & France has determined to raise the blockade it has raised considerable of an excitement among the men. I hope it is not true. But enough of war matters.
We are haveing splendid weather now tho rather cool in the evenings for comfort. we have plenty of good warm clothing with the exception of shirts & stockings they / are rather scarce with us at present, but the Q Master says he will have some soon You ask me about sending me some money I do not need any we are expecting to be paid off in a few days. Money is a thing we dont use much here for when we see anything that we want we go and take it. paying for things has played out. But my dinner is ready I must stop writing and attend to it Excuse bad writing as sitting on the ground with my / knees for a table is not the handiest way of writing in the world. My love to the children
Write soon as Ever Your Brother
George
