Dear Brother & Sister
I have been looking for a letter from you for several days in answer to the one I wrote you from Holly Springs about three weeks ago, but it may be you never got it as our mails are very irregular. I have not been at all well for several days past I am fearfull my old complaint is coming back again. I guess it is owing to the exposure of that we have been subjected to the past two weeks. I do not think we have had a clear day for two weeks. it rains or snows nearly every day. We are now engaged in / guarding the R.R. so it makes a great deal of duty to do how long we will stay here is hard to tell. Report says that the 16th Army Corps which we are in commanded by Genl Hulbert is ordered to Virginia how true it is I can not say I believe if I had my choice I would sooner go there than to Vicksburg but it does not make much difference where we are, for I have made up my mind that we will have to stay our three years if we live Well we have put in twenty months of it. Co K's old Capt is back again he is now Major of the 15th he is a splendid Officer I wish he could have been Col of our Regt. The Col is gone to Memphis after our pay rolls so there is some prospect of us getting our pay. it is / about time as we have not received any pay since I came back. I had a letter from Owen a few days ago. it seems that the 34th Regt has suffered very badly in the late battles Amos Hostetter's name is among the number killed it seems that the Carroll Companys have suffered more than their share. I am afraid that it will come our turn soon again as we have not been engaged for some time. But as it is getting late and my stock of news is limited I will bring my letter to a close

Write soon my love to all, as Ever

I remain your Affectionate
Brother George
