Dear Brother & Sister
I have just got through cleaning my gun and now as I have no other camp duty to attend to I'll devote the rest of the day in writing. Yesterday was a busy day for the 15th we was out in front supporting some siege guns that we had planted. we had quite a brisk time for a while but we come out all right. we shot about 6000 rounds from daylight 'till dark I laid in one of our rifle pits and shot 65 rounds how much execution I done I cant say, but one thing certain you folks will have to keep busy makeing cartridges or else we will run out. my opinion is we will have to use a good bit more ammunition yet before we get Vicksburg Since I last wrote to you I have received / two letters from you one mailed June 1st the other June 9th they were a long time comeing. it is a wonder to me that they get through at all as they have to pass through so many hands. those Prisoners you speak of we had the pleasure of guarding one night on the Yazoo River you may well say they were a hard looking set but I have got with them like I have with the Nigger kinder used to them. the Secesh played smash with one of our Nigger Regts down here killed about half of them and captured all their arms so much for arming Niggers it is a good plan our government has taken to supply the Secesh with arms. But if I am spared to live through the balance of my three years they may take the Nigger for all I care. one thing certain they wont get many of the old soldiers to help them

Sue you ought to be down here now to get blackberries I have never seen them so plenty as they are here not excepting Soap run. But I must close now. Remember me to Mr Slagle and Family and all other enquireing Friends write soon As Ever

Your Affectionate Brother
Geo B Miles
