George B. Miles to Edwin Miles, 27 August 1864
Mount Carroll
Friday Augst 27th 1864
Dear Brother
Yours was received a few days ago & should have been answered sooner, but it seems since I got home I have got out of the way of writing letters. In regard to comeing East this fall, I would like to come very well, but as I have been roaming around so much for the past three years, I think it is about time for me to be doing something for myself. If I thought I could get any thing to do in Pittsburg this winter I would come. I could get plenty of work / here this fall on the farm but I do not feel much like going at such hard work but if things goes on as they have been doing for the past six months we will have to go into the Army again. There is quite an excitement here now in regard to the draft. we have got to raise over four hundred men. they are trying to raise a Co of men for State Service, have got about about 50 men Ed H. has enlisted with several others in order to escape the draft but as that dont hit me I am perfectly easy on that score I have been doing a good bit of hunting since I came home. I have kiled over 200 chickens since the first / of August. I wish the weather was cool enough so that I could send you some.
Father occupys his time in fishing but with very poor luck.
Edwin if you see any thing that I can make a liveing at this winter in Pittsburg please let me know & I will come East this fall. The Family are well little George is going to make a rousing boy if he aint that now. Give my love to all
Write Soon as Ever

Brother George
