My dear cousins
after a long delay allow me to comply with Fathers & Mothers request that of writing to you. Although not personally acquainted I feel as if we might become so by the means of the pen if nothing more but hope our acquaintance will be that of seeing one another in some future time. Our people have neglected to write much longer than they would have done had I been at home. I am absent most of the time from home teaching and my / vacations are very short and for the last four or five months I have been very negligent in writing. I am in school now where I have the charge of over eighty scholars daily and you can well imagine I have but very little time to call my own. Father & Mother arrived home safe and well pleased with their visit with the exception that they did not see aunt Eunice. Mother is not very well at present the rest of us are in general health. We are all excited about the war. it seems to be the main topic of the day Volunteers are enlisting every day & Father is so anxious to hear how it is with you in Ct. He says cousin Eunice promised she would write all the news to him he would be very much pleased to hear from her as soon as it would be convenient for her to favor him with a letter
We are having a very cold & backward spring. for two years it has been very dry but now it bids fair for a very wet season
As many other duties are pressing upon my time I will draw this hurried scribling to a close by asking one and all to write as soon as convenient and to except a large share of love from one and all of us. Father and Mother say tell you to write all about the folks and what they are all doing every thing will interest them. If this mission is acceptable please answer, and you will oblige your cousin, which remains yours with much love.
