Dear Mother
not having heard from home for some time I write you hoping it may find you all well. Our Regt after staying in camp here for a week have left for the Peninsular leaving the camp and a few men here. Every body is up hoping that Richmond will surely be taken now There has been so much preperation agoing on that people think it cannot be otherwise / and that Gen Meade will take Gen Lee and the whole of his army if we are successful now it will materially end the war. There is now no news allowed to come from the front so we do not know how things are geting along Norfolk is very quiet now as there is no soldiers here now There is a few cases of small pox a growing less. if the Regt stays up there a long time I may be home.

I wrote a week ago to father about some matters I want him to attend to.

I have been very well this spring. The change of climate and water from N. Carolina here made me a little unwell for a few days but its all over now.
Hoping this may find you all well. I remain

with Love to all
Your Aff Son
Henry.
