Dear Mother
Not having heard from home for a long time I write to you again thinking you may have misdirected your letters. I write you again I have wrote you two letters since I have heard from you. Jo Sumner returned two or three weeks since but I did not see him untill two or three days since. he told me father had a law suit which cost him $750.00 but did not say what it was about. He said father wished to come out here this fall it will be a good time / That is if the troops stay here this fall. I have not been very well this fall and think I may be home in three or four weeks as we expect to be paid soon and as soon as I get settled up I shall be home if I do not feel better than I do now and then father can come back with me. All the news here you get as soon as we do, as we do not know what is agoing on only by papers. our Corps has moved from in front of Petersburg across the Appomattox River near the James, a heap better place than in front of Petersburg it is very unhealthy there. we all got sick, myself, my partner, clerks and both darkies / But they are all getting better now.

I reckon you will have lively times this month if the fair &c comes off I understand that a lot of the boys around home are enlisting. Please write who they are. do any of them intend to come to our Regt. Write me soon. hoping to hear from you soon I remain

Your aff son
Charlie
