Charles H. Butrick to (?) Burdick, 24 March 1869
Salem March 24th 1869.
Friend Burdick
Yours of the 11th was received last night. I went this morning to see some of the friends but could not find but one at home that was Mother. she says that if there is any chance to put it through to do so and she is willing to stand her share and she thinks the rest will do the same. She says that Aunt Prudance (Grand Pa's sister) would be as good a witness as you could have to prove Aunt Adie's capability of doing business for she says that when she was in the prime of life she was not thought / capable of doing business of any account. If you should want her evidence you can send for her deputation. Now I have two questions I wish to ask and then I will close for this time vis.—1st Do you know whether this Brown is a free mason or not? and 2nd Are you a mason? I will write you again as soon as I see the rest of the friends. Well I guess I will ask you two more questions—1st Is your Council a mason? 2nd is Brown's Counsil a mason? Please write soon and answer these questions on another piece of paper as I do not want the rest to know that I have made inquiries to this point.
Your friend
Charles Butric
