Charles H. Burdick to Nancy Burdick, 29 September 1872
Saint Louis Mo
Sept 29 1872

My dear Mother
Your kind and long looked for letter came to hand last week and we were so glad to hear from you all as it seemed so long as we have been in St Louis nearly three months and I had written three letters to you and this was the first one we received. so I did not know but some of you were ill or that something had happened

I received your letter telling of Cousin Eddie death. it must have been very hard for Uncle and Aunt to lose him but can always / be happy in the knowledge that he was a good boy and as you say loved by all who knew him. I would like to have seen him as I saw him very little and when he was small. Mary must have grown to nearly a young lady now. I trust ere another year goes by I will be home to spend a good while with you, and make up for lost time.

I am getting along quite well now am connected with the Pate House and getting a very good salary but times are very dull here this fall. we expect lively times here next month when our State Fair will be held here. it lasts nine days and is considered the best held in the United / States. I wish it was nearer Conn. so some of you could come out here.

It seems funny of the Brooklyn people getting ambition enough to build a Rail Road for I did not think they cared for any public improvements I am sorry to hear of Amos illness also happy to hear of his getting better and trust he is able to work by this time. I always feel so sorry that I was not here when he was in St Louis but it was my fault in not letting you know where I was.

My wife and self are well and that has always been my good fortune to have no sickness of any account. We are having very nice weather here only a little to cold / for this time of the year I would like to be home this winter and get a good sleigh ride as I have not seen good snow since I left Canada. We have a new park here opened to the public yesterday and called the Town Grove Park and comprising nearly three hundred acres. I was by it one day last week and it will be very nice place to drive in the only fault now is the trees are very small. it needs some of the old elms of Brooklyn in it. I wrote to Amos but as yet have received no answer I think he got my letters will write next to father. I hope Sarah is getting along well and so I trust is Annie.
