D. H. Harris Esq.
San Antonio Texas

Sir
I recvd a letter to day from my father enclosing yours, and it took me by surprise as this is the first intimation I have the draft was not paid by my brother-in-law and I know there must be some mistake in regard to it for if it had been presented to him it would have been paid. I wrote to him when I got the money on it and have only been here a short time and have not heard from him. I have written / to him to day in regard to it so I will shortly will know all about I think the trouble must have been with your agent in Prov. in not properly presenting it

I left San Antonio and went to Lampassas and wrote to Mr Barrett from there and asked him to tell you I was there and I think I should have been notified of the non-payment of the draft and not my father who was in no way connected with it. it shows very little the part of a gentleman or of an honorable man in attempting to extort money from my parents by saying that you would have an inditement found against me. Your letter is a / contradiction as you say you have paid it and then you have to bring it before the Grand Jury to satisfy others. Either one or the other must be false for if you paid you must be the only interested party there.

But all this makes no difference as I expected the draft to have been paid, did not think to swindle you out of that small sum when I could as readily obtain much more and would have paid it myself if I had know it was protested, which I will pay now, if there has been no legal proceeding commenced before the Grand Jury yet. so you can write me the particulars and draw on me or on receipt of a letter from you, will forward the / the amount to you.

I am very sorry that I have kept you out of the money or that you were put to any trouble at all in doing me the favor you did and hurt to think you suposed that I should attempt to swindle any one out of so small amount as $150.00

Trusting to hear from you soon and that it can be settled without farther trouble.

I remain
Very Resp.
Chas. H. Burdick
