Charles H. Burdick to Nancy Burdick, 18 January 1876
St Louis Mo
Jan 18th 1876
My dear Mother,
Your kind and welcome letter came to hand some time since, and I cannot offer any excuse for my neglect in answer it or in not writing to you before and often. I sent you papers so you would know where we were and that we were well. And I hope you and all so in Brooklyn or you would have let me know of it. I did hope to be able to send a remittance home when I wrote but it did / seem like I could get to it although this year promise better than last but promises are not good for much at this present day.
We are having so far the finest winter I ever saw, no snow and hardly any frost. the ground here now is not frozen the least bit, and the weather is like April. I believe this mild winter is general all over but I dread the time next month as things are generaly very bad here being extremely wet
Ella is quite well. We are keeping house have three rooms, and are getting along good. I am with the same house all the time, part the time traveling and part here, but business is so very dull that one cannot make any calculations ahead.
You must delay if I do no writing, but write often and let us hear how all are and getting along.
Love to all, tell Amos I have not forgotten if I am silent
With kindest love
I am Your aff Son
Charlie
