My dear Mother
After a long silence I write, the reasons being numerous but one thing you may all be certain of and that is we are all well when I do not write. I have received Geo W. letter, yours and one from Annie recently, and always so glad to hear from home. I sent the Sunday papers regular to you and Uncle John so you could know where I was.
One great reason I have not writen before is the house I was with failed last / fall and I have not been doing much since although now I have good prospects for next year. This to day is Christmas and for us here it is very quiet, as was Thanksgiving. We should like to be home very much, if only for a day or so but times are so dull here now I can't expect to go for some time, and it seems many times when we are trying to do our best the worst comes Every one is waiting to see who is agoing to be the next Pres. as we are all Democrats here, Tilden must be the man.
Tell Annie to write me how she liked the Centennial as you wrote she was there. I thought father would have gone also.
Ella joins me in sending Love to Annie Sarah Emma Amos and father
and to be remembered to Geo W.
From your loving Son
