Alonzo Tourjee was born around 1835 in Rhode Island to Sally Tourjee. His father died sometime before 1850. He grew up and attended school in Warwick, Rhode Island, and he married Isabel Harper on August 16, 1855. They lived in Warwick, and Tourjee worked as an “operative.”
He enlisted in the Union army on June 5, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company A of the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry later that day. The regiment took part in the First Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of Williamsburg, the Battle of Seven Pines, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Overland Campaign. He died of disease near Spotsylvania Court House on May 8, 1864.
