Warren Robbins Dunton
Warren Robbins Dunton was born on May 14, 1839, in Dorset, Vermont, to J. W. Dunton. He grew up and attended school in Dorset. He enlisted in the Union army on August 14, 1861, and mustered in as a sergeant in Company B of the 5th Vermont Infantry on September 16. The regiment took part in the siege of Yorktown, the Battle of Williamsburg, the Battle of Antietam, and the Battle of Fredericksburg. He was promoted to 2nd lieutenant on June 21, 1862, and to 1st lieutenant on November 22, 1862.
 
He was wounded in the Battle of Fredericksburg, and he mustered out on March 31, 1863. He reenlisted on October 15, 1863, and mustered in as a 1st lieutenant in the Veteran Reserve Corps. He was promoted to captain on January 5, 1865, and to major on March 13, 1865. He mustered out on June 30, 1866.
 
Dunton married Caroline Elizabeth Batcheldor in Dorset on October 1, 1864, and they had two children: Samuel, born around 1868; and Adelaide, born around 1878. He enlisted in the Regular Army on March 26, 1867, and mustered in as a 2nd lieutenant. In 1870, he was living with his family in Dorset. He owned $1,000 of personal property, and he employed a Black domestic servant. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant on December 31, 1872. He retired on June 28, 1878, and accepted a position as professor of military science and tactics at Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. He died in Boonville on April 28, 1902.
