Mary Susannah Wall
Mary Susannah Wall (maiden name: Winans) was born on August 1, 1816, in Mississippi to William Winans and Martha DuBose. Her father was a Methodist minister and plantation owner who owned at least 35 enslaved laborers by 1850. She grew up in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. She married Isaac Wall on January 15, 1834, and they had at least nine children: Sarah, born around 1834; William, born around 1837; Ira, born around 1844; Martha, born around 1846; Wesley, born around 1846; Martha, born around 1850; Mary, born around 1853; Isaac, born around 1856; and Francis, born around 1859. They settled in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and her husband worked as a Methodist minister. By 1850, they owned $8,000 of real estate. Her husband died in 1872. She returned to Wilkinson County, Mississippi, in the 1870s, and she died on February 28, 1897.
