Charles E. Mims
Charles E. Mims was born around 1807 in South Carolina to Drury Mims. His father was a farmer who owned $4,000 of real estate by 1850. He grew up in Edgefield County, South Carolina, and he moved to Columbus, Georgia, by the late 1820s. He married Elizabeth E. Martin on December 9, 1828. He married Eliza Martin around 1830, and they had at least six children: Ann, born around 1832; Harriet, born around 1834; Sarah, born around 1836; Charles, born around 1839; William J., born around 1840; and William Henry, born on December 18, 1840. He worked as a cotton broker, and by 1850, he owned $1,300 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $7,500 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. He moved to Montgomery, Alabama, in the 1860s, and he died sometime after 1870.
