Abbie E. Wheeler
Abbie E. Wheeler was born around 1841 in Maine to Nelson and Abigail Wheeler. Her father was a farmer who owned $2,000 of real estate in 1850. She grew up and attended school in Exeter, Maine, and by 1860, she was working as a schoolteacher. She corresponded with Thomas H. Wentworth throughout the Civil War, and the couple probably got married around 1865. They had at least two children: Thomas, born around 1866; and Stella, born around 1869.

They settled in Bradford, Maine, and her husband worked as a lawyer. By 1870, they owned $290 of personal property. Her husband died on January 26, 1917. By 1920, she was living in her daughter Stella’s household in Portsmouth, Virginia. A decade later, they were living in Hopewell, Virginia. She died sometime after 1930.
