Julia Gooch (maiden name: Emery) was born around 1838 in Maine. She married Charles W. Gooch in the 1850s, and they had at least six children: Cordelia, born around 1857; Augusta, born around 1859; Edward, born around 1865; Frederick, born around 1867; Emma, born around 1873; and Charles, born around 1879. They lived in Kennebunk, Maine, and her husband worked as a ship carpenter. By 1860, they owned $1,000 of real estate and $100 of personal property. Her husband served in the Union army from September 1862 until July 1863. Their daughter Cordelia died while he was away. Julia remained in Kennebunk for the rest of her life, and she died there on September 10, 1882.
