Nancy Powell Peed
Nancy Powell Peed (maiden name: Owens) was born on December 22, 1823, in Virginia. She married Robert Peed on March 11, 1842, and they had at least two children: Nathaniel, born on March 11, 1843; and James, born around 1845. They lived in King George County, Virginia, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $1,300 of real estate. Her husband died sometime in the 1850s. She continued to raise her children and operate the farm, and by 1860, she owned $350 of real estate. A decade later, she was living in her son Nathaniel’s household in King George County. She died there on February 4, 1886.
