Lauraette DeMeritt
Lauraette DeMeritt was born on April 18, 1844, in Montpelier, Vermont, to John and Amira DeMeritt. Her father was a cutler who owned $300 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Montpelier. She married James Brownell Riker on September 5, 1866, and they had at least four children: Jane, born around 1869; James, born around 1870; Lauraette, born around 1873; and George, born around 1877. They lived in New York City, and her husband worked as a gunsmith. She died in 1915.
