Malinda Garrett
Malinda Garrett (maiden name: Hunt) was born on February 4, 1817, in Fleming County, Kentucky, to Bazell and Mary Hunt. She married George T. Strahan on July 14, 1835, and they had at least three children: Samuel, born on August 2, 1841; David, born around 1844; and Miranda, born around 1846. Her husband died on April 17, 1847.
 
She moved to Nettle Creek, Indiana, around 1848, and she married Nathan Garrett on December 23, 1850. They had at least four children: Fremont, born around 1852; Egbert, born around 1855; Jessie, born around 1857; and Welcome, born around 1863. By 1870, the family owned $10,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property. Her husband died in 1871, and by 1880, she was living with her son Welcome in Nettle Creek. She applied for a widow’s pension in March 1886 and eventually secured one. She died on January 2, 1894.
