Tina M. Brower to George W. Browning, 29 March 1862
Milford March 29th1862
Lieut Browning Dear Friend
Your welcome letter of the 8th inst, was recd and read with pleasure and it is with equal pleasure that I now answer it. We had hoped to have heard from the 54th long ere this but were disappointed until we received your letter, and then how anxious we were to hear its contents for our interests are so entirely blended in one with respect to you all (I mean all of us that met you at the party) you can scarce imagine with what deep feelings your letters are read.
You will recollect perhaps the party you were to attend on Tuesday and you left the Monday before and we were left at the mercy of the 5th OVI who in no manner could vie with that of the 54th That we ladies all concur in the belief that were Camp Dennison filled a thousand times over that we would never meet with that congeniality of sentiment/that were in the Gallant 54th We had pleased ourselves with the idea of following you through your several destinations but even that pleasure was denied us, as the papers were forbidden to give an account of the movements of the troops, so you can imagine what pleasure it was to hear directly from you. Remember me kindly to all the Officers that composed our party the Ladies all wish to be remembered Ma sends her love in particular Miss Stewarts send their love to you & Lieut Potter and would be happy to have you both write. Please write whenever you have time, things seem favourable now that we all hope to have you return this summer. I will have to close please answer as soon as possible. Your friend
Tina M Brower
PS. Here is a note for the Sergeant Major Please hand it to him. We regret that we did not get acquainted with your Captain.
