Receipt for Colloring Madder Red
To one Pound of cloth or yarn take 3 ounces allum 1 Ounce Cream of Tarter 8 ounces of Madder and watter anough to cover the cloth Put in the allum and cream of Tarter Raise it to A Boiling heat Then Put in the cloth Let it Scald 2 hours then Rence in cold watter and turn it off Then take as much watter as before and Put in the Madder Mix it well warm the watter as warm as you can Bare the hand in it Then Put in the cloth let it Be in the die one hour Stiring it constantly Then let it Boil 4 Minutes colloring in copper or Brass (NB) Soak the Madder over night
