Sarah J. Gleson to George W. Browning, 29 June 186X
June 29
Freind George
I have waited all this time for my husband to write some but it is such hard work for him to write any thing but a buisness letter that I have given up in dispare but says if hes is alive & gets yours this time so as to answer it I will write some next time I am out of paitents to think I wited for him to write at all dont think I will againe but he is in a new buisness this summer & it takes all his time to attend to so many kinds
We ar having beautifull wether now vegetation is growing/finely & what the frost left is doing well—we had three frosts here the first of the month that done considerable damage but shall have enough left to save us from Famine if something els does not distroy it
Our glorious Natinal Independance is close at hand & most people seem puzzled to know how to spend it the most diffrant appropriate we are certainly not an independant People with such a war rageing in our land, & Celebrations seem to be out of place, though there is to be one in a neighbouring Town & my husband is one of the Vice Presidents has not said yet that he should attend—I hope the next time you write we shall hear some good news from you & the rebels if your hands are not shot off by the time (witch I am most afaid is the case) write as soon as you get this & I will answer ameadiately without faile from your freind S. J. G.
