                                    Dear Brother George
We Received yours of the 8 & 14 last Wednsday with the greatest pleasure as we had almost given up hearing from you we thought it a verry nice new years gift we ar all as well as common except myself I have been troubled with reumatism this winter Dr Woodhous ses enlargement of the liver I work part of the time at my traid and do my chores we have no hired help this winter nether mail nor femail Mason gows to School and it is verry [smudge] Still times haar we have ben looking for Cinda and your pet Boy for some time but dont hear from them yet but ar in hopes we shal soon we have had first rate sleighing for newyears and I think it has ben well improved I wish you was hear to take a good sleigh ride if it was posible but I suppose it is not so I hope you will enjoy yourself whair you ar several of our Towns men have been to Washington Lately D. P Black. L. Ackley. Levi Wells./They tell of hard suffering among the soldiers I hope this war may soon come to a close Wm Browning and wife was hear Christmas we had a verry good visit Fanny Chafey is dead Wednsday Jan 1 well Geo it is mail day and I must finish my short letter and send it The wind is in the North west this morning and verry cold weather I think of you and many other Soldiers This Blustering weather we are all well this morning have a good fire of black birch wood and make out to keep verry comfertable and I hope this may find you as comfertably situated I cant think of any thing that will interest you so think I will close hoping to hear from you soon and I will try and answer every letter I receive I no I cant write as good letters as you do but I can work as hard at it and I will do the best I can everry time pleas dont Enclose my Letters in other peoples for Reasons I will tell you when I see you Write often as convenient and oblige your affectionate Brother
