                                                                                    Thirsday May 1st 1862
 
My dear Wife
                        I commenced a letter to you day before yesterday But did not feel able to finish it our Reg Left Day before yesterday to move in to corrinth the hole army is moveing and no doubt to day the fight will begin. I had ben very sick with Diaree and fever the Dr Broke my feaver But my stommach was Bad I vomited all the time and was so weak I could not Bear my wate they went and left Potter and me hear with some other sick the Brigade sergeon came to see us once a day yesterday morning he gave us a pass to go on Board a Sanitary Boat they sent us an old lumber Wagon in a great hurry I got up & stagered Round got some things in my trunk and they threw my things in the wag and I got in some way sicker than death Well they had a Baulky team and Some the time they Run and the Rest Balked and we was till noon going 2 miles and I had given a dollar to draw us out of 2 Mudholes finally we hired another team and went to the River but the Boat had gone I couldent walk and there was an awful Jam for a mile of more than 2 thousand teams no body to help us and What could I do But hired the man to take us back to camp Well you nor anyone else will ever imagin the Jolting and hamering I got it went well and I believe has done me good I wouldent no more believed I could lived through it & got back all exhausted found our cook hear he went Rite to work got a bite to eat and I got on to my cot and slept a good share of the night this morning I am beter I am up washed and dressed and have Rote so much before Breakfast!!!! Well my dear I have eat some potatoe soop for my Breakfast and it tasted/mighty good and now you see I shall take my time and write you a long letter if I feel as well as I do now I supose you will worry Because I am sick but you need not As long as my head stays clear I am all Right My feaver is Broke I have a diaree yet But that is nothing here they all have a terrible diaree Potter is all Sound this morning he is an awful man to get along with he is going to die by spells and then he will get mad and Pout he got mad at me this morning and thought we beter desolve I says so all Right I dont care a dam I told him how he acted yesterday and he went off Pouting he has just come back and begins to come Round he cant fool me But it make me mad the Paymaster went out yesterday to pay the Regt and were to come back and pay the sick But I hear last night they wouldent pay them till the next payday if they dont I am in a nice fix But I think they will no doubt Pay us they said they would but these times you cant tell nothing if we are paid it will be all Rite But I have Just heard we are to be paid tomorrow after noon so you can expect a Pacage at the express office marked Mrs C. R. Browning you can send some one and get it I think you will find 2 hundred dollars in it But cant tell I will write you when I send it I havent got any letter from you since you heard I was safe but Rich got one from faney said she had Just got hers when you came in so I know you got mine I am in a great hurry as I have a chance to send this by Potter to the River I will write you again soon Write me all the news tell me about the garden Pig cow and how things look they are waiting and I must close do write often My love to all Kiss my pet
