Columbus Ohio           Aug 15th 1862
 
My Dear Wife
            again I will write you a few lines hopeing it will find you well I have ben to camp and got my order to the Regiment I have Bot transportation which has cost me about 8 Dollars But I can Draw 6 cts a mile on the order which will amount to some 30 or 35 Dollars I shall start at 3 oclock I have no idea what will be done But I am not at all affraid But what all will come out Right Charles went over to camp and came Back hear with me he will go to camp again this afternoon
 
                                                                                    A Dam’d Niger at my Boarding house came in to my Room and stole Seven Dollars out of my PocketBook he came in after my Boots Charles Slept with me he says the Niger was fumbling around I have spoke to Martin about it But I shall never get it I wish every niger was further in hell than than they are north it only leaves me about 10 Dollars to go on with But you know I always get along some way/
 
I tell you there is lots of swearing now about Matters Men are hear sick Potter will have to come to his Regiment under this order as sure as thunder it has all worked Right for me I think I shall Resign as soon as I get there sure pop But I will tell you when I get there
 
            I exchanged Watches with Gat Allen and told him if I went on you would pay him ten dollars for the one I got of him But I have concluded to not keep it and will Send it to him By All Nutt and you can Get my Watch and Chain and use it I dont like to take it with me because that may go as my money has
Gat will send it to you or you call and Get it
 
            Tell Poe to get Led and Oil anough for Moses to prime the fence over a good coat and then let it Rest till you hear from me and now what I do it wont hurt if it isent Painted any more in a year
 
Write to me as soon as you hear from Prouty and know what you will do about a girl I hope Something will turn up favourable/
 
I think Charles will be discharged But he will not get an examiantion for Prehaps 3 weeks he will write to you and when his Discreptive list comes he will send you his money I have opent a good deal for him I gave him 2.25 and pay his Board
 
Write to me and not wate to hear from me

            Kiss My Pet and do the best you can I am in a hurry as I have to see Dr Smith Before car time and some others

4 Oclock         Well Cinda
I am all Ready for a Start now I have Ben to busy to get off at 4 and will go at 12 to night I went and was exammid by Dr Smith & he gave me a Sertificate unfit for duty no a less time than 30 Days & now I would Just like to see what they would do I am all Right and no fear I am going down & take supper with All Nutt So good by/
 
Write to me at Memphis keep up good courage and dont get discouraged I will write often and if you only had some one to stay with you I should not care but still I am So cursed mad at that cursed niger
 
I get thirteen dollars and a half for coming and Reporting under General order No 61 but the Quartermaster has no money now but I will get it
 
if Clark Says any thing tell him I forgot to come and see him that night and I think if he wates a few days it will not kill him

says he must kiss Ma and mind her and not let her be lonesome
