General Orders
       No 1
                    In compliance with instructions
from Head Ors Department of the Cumberland
the following rules are announced as governing
the tender of resignation on the part of an Officer
of the Volunteer Service and will be followed invaribly
Par 24 Rev. Army Reg    No Officer will be considered out of
the service on the tender of his resignation until it
shall have been duly accepted by the proper authority.
Any Officer who having tendered his resignation, shall,
prior to due notice of the acceptance of the same by the
proper authority, and without leave quit his post
or proper duties, with the intent to remain permanently
absent therefrom, shall be registered as a deserter and
punished as such.
xxxxPar 26 Rev. A Reg.    Resignations tendered under charges
when forwarded by any Commander will always be
accompanied by a copy of the charges, or in the absence
of written charges, by a report of the case for the
information of the proper authority
Par 1645 Rev. Army Reg.    Officers of the Volunteer Service
tendering their resignations, will forward them through
the intermediate Commanders, to the Officer Commanding
the Department or Corps d’armii in which they may be
serving who is authorized to grant them homnorable
discharges.    Their Commander will immediately report
his action to the Adjutant General of the Army who
will communicate the same to the Govenor of the State
to which the Officer belong, a clear statement of the causes
will accompany every resignation.
C.O 57 Series of 1867    Officers of Volunteers who resign
their commissions will not be received into the service
of the United States as Officers of other Volunteer Organizations
                                          A resignation by reason of disability,
should be accompanied by a Surgeon’s Certificate of dis-
ability approved by the Surgeon in-Chief of the Division
on personal examination, which certificate must state the
degree of disability, and also whether the Officer is or is
not fit for the Veteran Reserve Corp.
                                                                    All other require-
ments or orders governing tenders of resignation, here-
tofore in force, in this command not included in the
above order are hereby revoked
