Friend Russ
                              Having a few
leasure moments this morning I
I thought I would write you a
few lines in regard to a letter
sent to me by Felicia to be delivered
to you.    The letter arrived here two
days after you left here.    I thought
the best way to get it to Henry at City
Point to be delivered to you as
you passed through there on your
way home.    I sent the letter to
Henry, and two days after went
down to City Point.    I was told by
him he had not received it, so by
that we came to the conclusion it
went to Washington which is the
reason you did not get it.    I
left word with Henry to destroy it
when it reached him.    Felicia
said there was nothing private in it
and said I could read it.    I was
very much surprised when I found
what news it contained, it being
the first inclination I had of
the accident.

                        There is no war news
of importance to write.    While I was
at City Point I saw Prentice Put-
nam.    He is surveyor of 5th Corps.
He said he thought the Army of the
Potomac would advance within
three days.

Tell Father I am well.    We are
having fine weather.    Give my love to Felicia

                     Su haste
