my Dear sister your letter of date the 20th and it with the greatest of pleasure I was truly glad to hear from you all I would have riten before now but it was such an afair off male at the best I thought that I would wait to get where so I could get it to go home I have not heard of one therd of the letters that I have writen Mary I havent much news of importance to write to you only we are drawing provisions for 5 day to last us to charlestown Sc Southcarolina so we leave the mountains and go south I dont now what general we will bee under yet well mary that is a bout all the news Mary I will tell you something to tell the girls tell Mollie I am a verry much of bliged to to her and give her my respects again tell sis if I had never been flatered before she mite flater me though tell her that I am verry much of bliged to her give her my best wishes and respects/tell Priss I have been up in the yankey country or at least in the new state (canoy) mad by the yankeys if I had of known that she wanted a little yankey I could have gotten one for her I saw a good many hearty little mountaineers well mary enough of that tell Brother george I have wrote to you twice to write to me and I never have heard of them yet nothing more at present only your Brother till death John W. Hodnett
Ps tell father that I sent him 40 dollars by capt Long. this leaves me in verry good health my weight 154 lbs I will write to you a gain next week
