Miss Mary Hodnett
Dear sister it is with pleasure I take my pen in hand to answer your kind letter that I received by tip I was truly glad to hear from you all these lines leaves me well as common and hope they will find you all enjoying the same blessing Mary I have no news of importance to write we received 18 recruits last sunday billy came down with them he has been complaining ever since he has been here with cole I am a fraid he will have a spell of before he gets use to camp life Mary I heard from the other camp the/other day James sam and John were well there are a good deal of sickness in their camp now of pneumonia Mary they are fighting a battle to day with canon but I don’t think they will do much they dont get closenuff to gether to hurt much well mary I got my blanket and shirt the other day that was sent to me when John Evans come to us at Jackson river last september I was glad to get it too I have got five blankets now Mary I am ashamed to send this to you times are so dul now we have to work evry day we dont get any news I am in hopes that you will write me a long letter and give me all the news and write to me all you know a bout me about my court ship I heard that I was going to get maried I was verry much surprised nothing more at present J.W.H.
