Dear sister it is with pleasure I im brace the present moment to Drop you a few lines informing you I am well and the that Brother Jef an sam arrived yesterday they left Benjamin in griffin with Bob Taylor and I expect he will stay there as sergeant of his company the others arrived safe and are well. well Mary I have no news of importance to write we have some warm Dry weather now we had a verry lite shower last night for the first since I left in april I was glad to hear you have had some settled weather since I left there I hope the farmers may get up now they have been so badly behind had/I hope they may make a good crop if they dont we are gone for the yankeys are crowding of us very close on every side we have to Do something soon or else we are gone for good if we trust in our arms alone we are gone. but we should not though it is done too much and that is the cause of our lines beeing drawn in so near us though I hope we may gain our independance yet though the Daily news are verry Discourageing now it is generally thought that Richmond will bee evacuated in ten days given up to the yankeys then petersburg 22 miles this side then to weldon all rite on the railroad they are already near weldon northcarolina then they will have all of va and a bout half of north carolina besides all other places/
 
well I must come to a close sam want to write some he tells me susan is at fathers I was glad to hear she was there as anderson is gone to the wars tell her she must write to me I mailed a letter to her yester day morning to Lovina tell me how all the girls are geting along since I left there nothing more at present your affectionate Brother till Death
