                                                                        Miss Mary Hodnett
                                                            Dear sister it is with pleasure that I imbrace the present moment to answer your kind letter which I received a few days a go it found me well and doing tolerable well I verry glad to hear from you all to hear you were all well these lines leaves me well Tip has the fever one week to day he is mending now and I hope tha he will bee well in a few days he has no fever now we are in the savannah medical colliege hospital I must hasten I received a letter from James last week from waine ville since that they have moved 4 miles a bove savannah we are 4 be lowe Mary I have no other news to interest you you wrothe to me something about my cloth close I have received all of them except my blanket and the things you sent in that box by walker the time John Evans come them close I have not received.
 
Well I must bring these lines to a close Mary they wont give any furlowe now only to the sick I cant tell when/I can get off though I think I think will get off before long when evry thing gets settled I hope they will any how you must excuse these lines and rite to me soon I will write to brother george in a day or two the columbus artilery is now attached to our regiment nothing more at present only I remain your brother till Death
