Miss Mary Hodnett     Dear Sister it is with pleasure that I now take my pen in hand to ansur your kind letter that I reseived a day or too a go and Henry also reseived one at the Same time not no it Samual in Stid of henry mine was dated I 17 of this inst and Samual was dated the 24th I think also JF Moore reseived one last night from Sister Lizebeth dated the 24th whitch letters has bin red by all of us with glad harts we had come verry ancious to hear from you all and to hear that you was was well as commond I trust these lines will reach you in dew time and will find you and all in the in the injoyment of good health whitch is so great a blessing thes lines line leaves us all complaneing a little Samual and and Henry went out to drill this morning John and my Self is on the Sick list John has/got the Bowel compant I hav got the erresiplous in my left eye and it soolen up so that I cant Scearsley See out of it a tall and I am a frade that I will hav a bad time of it before I get over it this is the third time that my eye has bin in this fix sence I had the Small pock to change well Sister mary I hant news of importance to right you more than our meeting is cepup yet but dont seme to be all to gether as mutch intrust takeing in it as thare was some time back though last night thare was seven joind the Church I hope that it will brake out a fresh a gane Oh if we jest had some good ministers hear to carry on to carry on the good work that is be gun hear in the Army what a great thing it wood be I dont now how many has joind the Curch hear but a great many well Sister Mary you hear more war nuse thare than I do I reckon So it is usless for me to right me any thing a bout that I am tierd of war thoug I hav to bar it well Sister Mary I was so glad to/hear that you all had heard from Brother Ben and espesly to hear that the Dr thout that he was doing verry well I do hope that he will get well
 
well Sister you Stated in your letter that you wanted to now whether we ever reseived any of your letter or not these I speke of in that I reseived one a bout the from you a bout the time we got back out of mayland and one Sense we hav bin in these camps which is three that I hav reseived from you this year the first one you was at Sister Susan and before I had and opotunity to ansur it I reseived one from Sister Su and ansurd both in one the one that I reseived hear was too ou or three weeks a go I recond I ansurd it in a few days afterwards but I coud they must of got miss plast on the way I hant heard from then sence well I must close as Samual will finish the letter excuse a bad riten letter as I am in a bad fix for righting give my love to Father and Mother and all of my Brothers and Sister and reiv a larg potion for your self         TJ Hodnett

            Sister Mary as brother Jef did not fil up this paper and left it for samey to write and he would not or at least did not and the paper is not fild out all though I hav no nuse to write but I will try to file it out with somthing all though I dont feal mutch like writing or doing eny thing elts this morning for I feal very dul and bad and weak I hav ben in feable helth for A weeke or more the other boyes air all up this morning but not verry well Henry and Samey is gon off to the branch to wash thar clothes Mary you complane of our not writing or at least not hearing from the letters that you send to us but we do write and expect to as long as we hav the chance
