                                                                                    Susan I reseved your much prised leter yesterday I read it with the gratest of pleasure I am sory to hear that your health is not good for good health is such a good blesing this leaves me in good health with the exception of a sore Mouth and that is not veary sore though 4 or 5 days a go I had a veary bad spell of something liking to the flucks I am in hops when thes lins reaches you tha may find you well and the children and conection and friends the health of the co is veary good at presant Nothing new in camp a heap of driling to do and some work the 46th worked on brest works 3 days this last weak thare is regiments at work on them every day/I dont object to working on brest works for if I have to fite I want to be be hind brest works. Susan you rote as you dont get leters as ofen as you want to get them I will tryin write oftenener I will try in write every weak and I am in hops that you will do the Same, for I will not get to go home I dont recon tha tole me fine tales untill tha got me to reinlist and then tha stoped the reinlisted from goin though it have not lankensen our time any I [hole in paper] for we wold have ben presant for the ware any how and I am in hops that the ware will end be fore our time is out any how though the chance looks glumey now I want to try for a furlow afer while if tha keep furlowing though I may wait until fall/
 
Susan I want you to content your self the best you can a bout me as it dos no good to greave a bout sich things if the Good Lord will onley give me good heath I think that I can stay with them and the longer the abensons the haper the time will when we do meat we can onley pray that we may live to see the day when we can meat to part no more and it looks like if this cruel ware dos not end soon we had as well be dead as we canot get to see each other though I dont think that the ware will last much longer. H R Gay and J F Hooper will start home to morogh I recon HR’s Furlow have don come though JF’s is not yet my love and a kiss to you

Mother I write you a fu lins which I am in hops will find you well and all the familey this leaves me well and the co is in veary good health I have nothing to rite that will interest you I went to meaten this morning and heard a veary good surmon Preached thare is meating to be in the regiment this evening and it is nearley time for it I think I must hasten so as to get to go for we have some veary in teresting Prechers hear to preach to us and I dont know how long tha will stay with us as tha dont be long to our Brigaid I must close your afectionet sun         W A S
