                                                 Atlanter           Ga            August 6th 1864
 
                                    Dear Susan I seat my self this evening to drop you a fu lins and let you no that I am well. I reseved a leter from you yesterday for the first time that I have hearn from you since the the the first of July I was veary glad to get to read one more leter from you and to hear that you war well I was sory to hear that Mary A was sick I am in hops that she is well now and you and all of Mothers family and all the conection. I am veary sory that the yankes have ben goin through our contrey and tearing up every thing as tha have I no that the Women and children are sceared thinking that tha will pester them Though I am in hops that tha wont pester privet property/
 
I have no news to write we are having a heap of fiten to do hear we charge the yankes or tha charge us nearley every day on sum part of the lines tha charged us last Tuesday and tha got nearley rond the Left of our co, co co B D and K come veary near ben capteared & G was capteared the 3 co that run out run a veary nare risk of being kild though we never lost neare one it is not no use in my trying to tel you any thing of our loss since we have ben heare for I can hear so meny reports I dont no when I do hear the trouth I recon that you come nearer hearen the troth than we do I no that we have lost a grait meny and I dont see any way for us to get out of this fite with out/a heap more though I am in hops that tha will quit be fore much longer
 
Susan you rote that you ware at your Mothers and tha wanted you to stay thare and you wanted me to say what for you to do I dont no what will be the best I hait veary bad for every thing we have to be left at home though I want you to do the best you can we will be apt to loos all of our stock though I expect we will loose them any how I wish that you cold be contented to live with Mother if Haret have left thare as you cold stay thare and atend to our things the hosing stuf I recon that you cold put in hear house and the stock cold stay whare/tha are though do the best you can I think this cruel ware will sireley end this year I think this fite will end the ware I want to see you veary bad I do pray that the time well soon come when I can get to go home and stay thare give my love to all and tel them that all that I want to see them veary bad I rote to sister Mary a bout 3 weaks a go though I have not hearn from hear since unitil I reseved your leter yesterday I must close for the presant goo by for onley a litle while I am in hops I have rote to you from 1 to 2 leters a weak every since I have ben at this plais and have not reseved but one
