                                                                                    14 Miles west of Griffen

Dear Susan I seat my self to write you a fu lins which leaves me well the health of the co is tolible good I am in hops that thes may find you you all well I am geting veary ancious to hear from you as I have not hearn from you in a long time I have nothing to writ that will interest you I hear it reported that thare is a 10 days Armistus orderd though i dont no that to be true though I am in hops that it is we had a fite the 31 of August and our Regiment lost a good meny men we lost one of our companey W W Gray I recon have dide he got a veary bad/wond in the hyp and he ware sent to the horse pitle and then the yankes taken the prisnears be fore tha cold be moved and our Dr seas that he thinks that Mr Gray dide be fore he left him we charged the yankes though we did not run them out of thear works onley thear Picketwork       Susan I rote to you a bout 12 or 14 days a go I dont much expect you ever got the leter I rote a bout your cilen a beaf you can do what you think best a bout that though as for Seling of it I dont want you to do that though if BR wants to work the ox I am veary wiling for him to do that though I dont want/to sel him 50 dolars wold not pay for the hide I did not tel you waht I had hearn that Armistus was for it hear that it is to exchange prisnears and I have hearn that it is for the women and children to be taken out of Atlanter the yankes seas that we burnt up our comisary and now he may fead the women and children I am in hops by the time the women gets out tha will come to some turmes to make peas or I fear if the ware last much longer that thare will be nothing left for you all to live on I will close for the presant your Afectionet Husband             W A Stephens
 
Tell Mother & and familey that I want to see them veary bad and as I canot get to see them I want to heare from them as often as I can
