                        Near Tuscumbey Franclen Co  Ala      Oct the 31/64
 
            Dear Susan I seat my self this morning to rite you a fu lins to let you no whear and how I am I have olredy tole you whear we are and I am in veary good health at this time and all the co is in veary good health that is with us I recon that the most of the boys will rite to day as I think we will lie over to to day I am in hops that this may fnd you all well. we have had a heap of hard marching to do thare was part of the armey crost the Tenn River yesterday and we tha crost this evening we have not had much fiten to do since we left Resacker Ga our rashons have ben rether short and I dont no that tha will get any beter though I am in hops that tha will I have ben riten to you for some closing I have dron some so I dont nead any thing at presant or I am not sufren I wold like to have my coat & som socks though I no that you canot send them to me now and if I had the Coat I dont recon that I cold pack of it on thes hard marches I think that we will get to go in to winter quarters be fore long and then mabey we will have a chance to get somting from home and mabey get to go home Generel Hood  seas if we will do the best we can on this flanking movement that he will furlow us all home I am in hops that I will get to go this winter and stay though I fear that the wear is not near ended yet I want to see you veary bad O that I cold get to set rond the Fire and Table with you and the childre and enjoy our selves together how much beter satesfide I wold be you must not think hard of me for not writen no oftener than I do and you must/write as often as you can I have but litle time to write my Self and when I have a litle time I am too tiared to do any thing. I have not hearn any thing a bout the prospect for corn for you to live on another year though I am in hops that you will a maik a plenty to live on take the ceare of what you have so as to mak what you have do you I am in hops that you will not get with out corn next year untill the nex crop comes in get all the Wheat swn that you can for fear that corn will get too short I dont recon that I will have the time to write BR ane leter to day tel him to do the best he can for us I am veary glad that he can have the chance to stay at home and at tend to our buisness
 
give mother my love and best respects O that I cold get to see you all in sted of having to righ to you. Cosen Ben Hodnett send his best respects to you he have rote to you and is veary ancious to get an anser Tel Elizer that Bud is well and I will rite to hear the first chance I will have to close it is a bout time for the mail to leave and we onley have it cared out onse an a while and a long time in be twixt times
