Susan Stephens to William A. Stephens, 24 November 1859
Long Cane      Nove the 24  1859

                                                                                                Mr Wm A Stephens
I received your very kind letter yesterday morning, after a considerable delay. Which was caused no doubt by the non attention of some of the Postmasters on the rout and you perhaps are looking for an answer by this time, and think strange that I do not write; Therefore I will hasten to answer; I was very glad to hear from you. I had almost come to the conclusion that you ware not going to write any more

I have not much news at this time to communicate to you Parties are a bout to set in for their winter Session; There will be one to night in this settlement close by but I do not expect to attend; We will have a merry Christmas this winter I recon if parties continuse to rage this winter like they did last unless the croud gets tired before Christmas comes/

Mr Stephens you seemed to want to know whether I would marry or not and also wanted my opinion on that subject; Well now as it regards marrying Mr Stephens I am sorter like you; I think that it would suit me as well to marry now as it ever would I have thought about it and have a bout concluded to marry; And as it regards yourself I confess that I like you very much for the acquaintanse that I have with you and have no objection to a farther acquaintanse with you if desired I dis like to write in this subject very much, and hope you will parden me for not expressing myself more fully on this point, as you spoke of coming soon I will not write any more at present and when you come I will give you satisfaction if desired. I must close hoping to see you at the appointed time a bout the first sunday in Dec. Yoars Sincer
